Womans Health Physiotherapy

Women’s health physiotherapy covers a broad range of stages during a woman’s life. This could be from pregnancy, postnatally or when approaching the menopause.

During pregnancy and postnatally it is common to experience low back pain, pelvic pain and general aches and pains. There are many reasons why pain can occur during pregnancy including: the increasing weight of the baby putting pressure on the back and pelvis, changes in hormone levels and general level of fitness. It is important to address any issues early in pregnancy so that pain can be controlled as the pregnancy progresses.

If you have any concerns, why not book in for an assessment at Prestons and see how physiotherapy can support you during pregnancy and beyond.

It is common for ladies of any age to experience difficulties controlling either their bladder or bowel symptoms.

Commonly after child birth, ladies find they have to visit the toilet more frequently or when they get the initial urge, they have to rush to the nearest toilet. It is also common to experience urinary leakage when exercising, coughing, sneezing or simply when bending to pick up a heavy toddler!

Other women find it difficult to control wind or have to rush when they get that initial urge to empty their bowels.

It is not uncommon to suffer with chronic constipation which can result in straining to open bowels which in turn puts pressure on the pelvic floor muscles. This can sometimes result in prolapse symptoms. This is when a bulge or pressure is felt either in the rectum or vagina which can feel uncomfortable when walking or doing normal activities of daily living.

If you have any concern regarding your bladder or bowel symptoms please don’t suffer in silence, come and see the women’s health physiotherapist at Prestons and see what she can do to help you.
