PRESTONS SUPPORT YAXLEY RUNNERS AT THE FOLKSWORTH 15 MILE RUN 2012
The Prestons team (including our sports massage Practitioner, Phil Young, our podiatrist Sue Arnold, and our Chartered Physiotherapists, Helen Preston and Stephen Moesbauer) provided sports medicine support at the Folksworth 15 mile run 2012.
Prestons donated the "Prestons Physiotherapy Cup" to the best local lady runner over 60: this prize went to Anne Furbank. Congratulations Anne!!!
Our primary focus at Prestons is Physiotherapy.
The benefit of coming to see a physiotherapist at Prestons for assessment and treatment of your condition is clear: we try our very best to get to the root of the problems.
Our training is very holistic in its approach. We are the health professional specialists in human movement and all aspects of the way in which we move. Our training allows us to utilise all our skills in the above areas to treat the patient as an individual. We train in a whole host of locations, including hospitals, schools, GP clinics as well as the community. This ensures that we have a high level of medical understanding and training.
You can be safe in the knowledge that Physiotherapists at Prestons not only treat your condition with the appropriate techniques, but they also help you to identify why your problem developed in the first place to ensure you have long term benefit from our intervention.
We are also bound by a code of ethics which ensures that we only treat when it is clinically appropriate and (with your permission) we always liase closely with your GP. Prestons views it just as important to know when not to treat as well as when to treat. You, the patient, needs to be secure in the knowledge that your physiotherapist has your best interests at heart.
We also acknowledge that there are three major factors that need to be considered when assessing and treating a patient:
• "The biological factor" ie the actual source of the problem at tissue level. For example, in low back pain, this may be a "prolapsed disc".This is known as the "bio-psycho-social approach" and why physiotherapists at Prestons always take a detailed history (including a medical history) incorporating all aspects of a condition before they examine and treat the individual.
• "The psychological factor" ie the impact of our psychological system on the development of a condition. For example, in low back pain, this might involve what an individual's health beliefs about the source of the pain are.
• "The sociological factor" ie the environment in which the individual lives in. This includes the patients work, home life, relationships and hobbies.
What techniques do we use?
We use a combination of manual therapy, movement training and physical and electrophysical agents to achieve a long term answer to your individual problem. We tailor every treatment according to your specific problem, incorporating some or all of the following:
